For many years now correspondence and information has been exchanged with cousins Don Collett (Ref. 8R16) and Ann Loh (Ref. 8S15) who are descendants of the Gloucestershire Collett family now living in Australia.

This section is a personal thank you to them for the information they supplied and for their continued friendship over all of those years.

This section of the Collett story starts at Painswick in Gloucestershire with Henry Collett (Ref. 1O55) and mainly concentrates on those people carrying the Collett name, whereas Don Collett’s website opens this up to the extended family.

It was Henry Collett’s great-granddaughter Dorothy Pitt nee Collett (Ref. 8R7) who kindly provided the detailed story of her father James Percy Collett (Ref. 8Q7) who died in 2006 just short of his 104^th birthday.

1O43	HENRY COLLETT (Ref. 1O55) was born on 07.06.1838 and was baptised on 24.06.1838 at Painswick in Gloucestershire. He married Elizabeth Roberts on 06.04.1858 at Brynmawr near Crickhowell in South Wales. Elizabeth, who was baptised on 03.01.1836 at Abergavenny, was the daughter of Peter Roberts.
	In 1860 Henry and Elizabeth emigrated to Australia when they sailed out of Plymouth on the twenty-third of August aboard the ship Schah Jehan which arrived at Adelaide in South Australia on the second of December.
	Henry was a miner and he died on 11.04.1918 at Maryborough in Victoria where he was buried. Elizabeth died on 20.04.1890 at Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and was buried at Cheltenham Cemetery in Melbourne on 22.04.1890.

8P1	Eliza Jane Collett was born on 02.10.1860 on board the sailing ship Schah Jehan bound for Australia. The difficult sea journey resulted in her mother Elizabeth being ill during and following the birth. Eliza was born at a point in the voyage when there was still two months to go before the ship reached its destination.
	It is likely that, like her mother, Eliza Jane was also not in the best of health during the weeks following her birth in such difficult surroundings as she did not survive. The record of her birth, together with that of her death, were both stated as having taken place at South Australia to where the ship was headed.
8P2	William Henry Collett was born on 26.12.1861 at Portland East in South Australia where he married Emily Jane Corey on 17.07.1889. She was born on 01.04.1868 at 63 Rollo Street, Battersea in London, England, the daughter of William Corey and Henrietta Emery.
	Their children were born at various locations in Victoria including Cheltenham and Carisbrook, but the majority were born at Maryborough. William’s occupation was that of a carpenter although at the time of the death of their son Henry in the First World War he and Emily were living at The Post Office in Maryborough.
	William died on 17.03.1937 at Maryborough and was buried at Maryborough Cemetery on 20.05.1937. Emily died on 08.09.1962 at Adelaide and was buried in Dudley Park.

8P3	Mary Jane Collett was born on 08.06.1864 at South Australia. She married Henry Corey on 26.12.1882 at the Bible Christian Church in Yatala SA. Henry Corey, the brother of Emily Corey who married Mary Jane’s brother William Collett (above), was born on 25.12.1860 at 17 Lillington Street in Westminster, London.
	Henry emigrated to Australia in 1875 on board the ship North, which sailed from Plymouth on 10^th September and arrived at Port Adelaide on 30^th November. However, the passengers were not permitted to land until 9^th December possibly because of the risk of disease or infection on board the ship. Henry’s occupation was that of stonemason and plasterer.
	Mary died on 01.02.1889 at Mentone Moorabbin Shire in Victoria after the birth of the couple’s third child and was buried at Cheltenham Cemetery. A few years later Henry married (2) Mary Thomas Miller Barnett from which union daughter Henrietta Mary Corey was born.
	Two years later Henry and Mary sailed on the ship Wollowra to Albany in Western Australia, arriving there on 25^th August 1896.
	Henry died on 27.05.1940 at Perth in Western Australia and was buried at Karrakatta Cemetery.

8P4	EMANUEL PETER JAMES COLLETT was born on 28.12.1866. He married Hetty Matilda Ruff on 08.08.1891 at Armadale in Victoria. Emanuel was a bricklayer and he died on 24.04.1912 at Malvern in Victoria and was buried on 25^th April at Cheltenham Cemetery in Melbourne.
	Hetty was born in 1869 at Prahan in Victoria the daughter of James Ruff and Elizabeth Vines. She died on 26.09.1935 at Caulfield in Victoria and was buried the following day at Cheltenham Cemetery.

8P5	Edwin Arthur Collett was born on 10.09.1869 at Queenstown in South Australia. He married Margaret Annie Archard on 08.11.1900 at Ballarat in Victoria. She was born on 31.12.1876 at Taragulla in Victoria and died on 25.01.1949 at Williamstown in Victoria.
	Edwin died on 08.04.1942 at Kyneton in Victoria and was buried at Riddells Creek in Victoria, where his wife was buried on 27.01.1949.

8P6	Eleanor Harriett Sinai Collett was born on 29.01.1876 at South Australia. She married James Cochrane in 1892 who died on 14.02.1957. Eleanor died in 1972 at Malvern and was buried at Cheltenham in Victoria.
	The couple had six children and all were born in Victoria. The first three Myrtle Wilimea (born 1892), Beatrice Elizabeth (born 1894) and William Henry (born 1895) were born at Cheltenham, with Ivy Lillian (born 1898) at Brighton, Charles James (born 1899) at Gembrook and Royden Alexander (born 03.03.1909) at Malvern.
8Q1	Evelyn Frances Grace Collett was born on 23.01.1890 at Carisbrook. She married (1) Herbert Emery who was born in 1888 and who died on 06.12.1952 at Adelaide. The marriage produced four children Henry, Gladys, Evelyn (Linnie) and Violet although the dates of birth of which are not known.
	Following the later death of husband Herbert, Evelyn re-married (2) Bruce W Willcocks.
8Q2	Edgar Thomas Collett was born at Cheltenham in Victoria in 1891 and he died at Maryborough on 20.10.1902 at Maryborough where he was buried two days later.
8Q3	Henry Collett was born at Carisbrook on 06.06.1894. At the outbreak of the Great War he enlisted as Private 1519 with the 24^th Battalion Australian Infantry of the Australian Imperial Force.
	Henry was involved in the Anzac (Australian & New Zealand Corps) battles to secure Gallipoli in Turkey but tragically died there on 14.10.1915. He was buried at the Lone Pine Cemetery at Anzac in Turkey which looks out over the Aegean Sea – grave ref. ID.19.
	His parents William Henry and Emily Collett were notified of his death while living at The Post Office at Maryborough.
	His entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Maryborough (rather than Carisbrook); he enlisted at Mildura in Victoria; his service number was 1519; and his father and next-of-kin was William H Collett.
8Q4	William Collett was born on 04.06.1896 at Maryborough and died on 30.11.1974 at Yarram in Victoria and was buried on 02.12.1974 at Welshpool in Victoria. During his life he was a soldier in the First World War, and later a policeman, a wrestler and a storeman.
	His entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Maryborough; he enlisted at Maryborough; his service number was 3080; and his father and next-of-kin was William H Collett.
	It may be of interest to note that his service number 3080 immediately followed that of his cousin Percival Harold Collett (Ref. 8Q17) who was 3079, perhaps indicating that they had enlisted together.
	He married (1) Ethyl Bryle Myrne Hughes who was born in January 1889 the daughter of Ned Hughes and Arabella Jenkins. The marriage produced one son born in 1919 before William and Ethyl separated and William married (2) Phyllis Elizabeth Phillips with whom he had a further two children. Phyllis was born on 09.06.1905.
	Ethyl died on 17.12.1972 at Melbourne and was buried two days later at Traralgon in Victoria, while Phyllis died on 22.05.1989 at the Foster Hospital in Victoria and was buried three days later at Toora Lawn Cemetery.

8Q5	Albert Ernest Collett was born at Carisbrook in 1897. He married Lillian Jean Hutcherson and the married produced one son.
	8R4	Albert Ernest Milburn Collett	Born on 13.10.1928
8Q6	George Robert Collett was born at Maryborough on 13.07.1900 and died at Geelong in Victoria on 19.08.1976. At sometime in his life he married Hilda Dean.
8Q7	James Percy Collett was born on 25.10.1902 at Maryborough where he married Bessie Melvia Carlyon on 04.04.1924. During his life he was referred to as Jim Collett. Bessie was born on 14.12.1902 also at Maryborough and died at Caulfield on 05.03.1992 and was buried five days later at Glenroy in Victoria. James lived to the remarkable age of almost 104 years, but unfortunately passed away at Caulfield on 23.08.2006 just two month short of his 104^th birthday. He was buried six days later at the Fawkner Cemetery. This picture was taken sometime between 1952 and 1970 when he was working at the Melbourne City Mission.

	The Life Story of a Great Man, James Percy Collett, as told by his daughter Dorothy Pitt
	James Percy Collett was a remarkable man who spent his life in the service of others. He began his working life as a farmhand at the age of 12, in order to support his parents raise their eleven children. Their life was difficult in a raw mining town in Victoria, Australia. His father William Henry Collett (Ref. 8P2) was a carpenter and a handy man, but money was scarce in those days and folk did as much for themselves as they could.
	James was always cheerful, bringing home his wages at regular intervals to enable his mother able to buy shoes etc for the younger children. James knew he needed an education so would read his brother’s school books. This led him to take up a correspondence course for when he went back to his farming.
	His grandfather Henry Collett (Ref. 1O43) who had travelled from Painswick to Australia in 1860 had given him a bible. This went everywhere with him and he became enthralled at the life that Jesus had led. He taught himself to play many instruments and loved to entertain with ballads sung in his wonderful young baritone voice.
	It was at a fair in his home town that he met the love of his life, Bessie Melvia Carlyon, a pretty teenager who modelled for the local dress shops. He won her heart with his blonde good looks, his music, and his unassuming manner. She was totally charmed from that day on. Bessie promised to wait for him until he returned from farming. Only eight months after they met they were married in April 1924 and exactly a year later their first child was born.
	James found a local job to be with his little family and was soon promoted to a better position in Jeparit where the next two children were born. After a further few years in Jeparit the family moved again to enable James to improve his position with the Victorian Railways. It was in Stawell that James, at the age of 36, became a Christian and where their fourth child was born. Soon he was involved in the social activities of the younger members of the church and held classes in First Aid, Bible Study, and Scouting, and was enlisted as a preacher from time to time.
	Eventually another promotional change sent the family to Ballarat, a large provincial city in Victoria. The children were teenagers by now and found new schools and work for their eldest son. James attended his new church and soon found his reputation had preceded him via the church newsletter and was pressed into continuing his leadership roles. A new scout troop, more first-aid classes, more bible study groups and many new friendships were made.
	One Sunday there appeared an advertisement in the newsletter, seeking the services of a missioner to manage the Melbourne City Mission. James was 50 years old at that time and had retired from the railways and was interested in a change of direction, so applied for the position. He went to Melbourne for an interview and found himself in a roomful of other applicants. Eventually he was called to give account of himself and was sent home with the promise of a following letter about the outcome.
	Finally the letter arrived and he was successful. He became the Missioner in Charge at this wonderful institution devoted to the care and rehabilitation of the homeless and, sometimes, hopeless people in the large capital city of Melbourne. James was there for 18 years and he could tell many a story of the people who came through his doors. There were many successes with often professional people able to return to their former lives after extensive counselling.
	James retired from this position at the age of 68. However, he continued to give service in a voluntary capacity, repairing furniture and electrical items for resale in charitable organisations, walking each day to the workshop in High Street at Prahran as he had never owned or driven a car in all his life.
	After another 18 years of service in this manner, he reluctantly had to retire but still mended clocks and other items that were brought to him at home. Now that James had retired he decided to undertake a course on Theology – his life long passion. This entailed years of study with many examinations and, finally at the age of 91, he attained his B.A. in Bible Theology with the University of Texas.
	James was now a staunch member of the church in Swanston Street in Melbourne and never missed a Sunday for many years. He was a favourite with the children who called him “Uncle Jim” and they gathered around him after the service in the coffee room. He knew each child by name and would tell them stories from the bible and ask them little questions which they would compete to answer.
	And so his life continued with the love and joy of life every single day. He achieved everything he set his mind to, and was loved and admired by all who knew him. There were many wonderful glowing speeches at his funeral and it was clear that all felt the richer for having known this man who lived his life for others.
8Q8	Charles William Henry Collett was born at Maryborough on 04.05.1904 and he married Myrtle Dellar on 15.08.1925. Charles died relatively young on 13.09.1940 at Melbourne.

8Q9	Emily Henrietta Collett was born at Maryborough on 11.12.1907. She married Leslie George Mills on 21.05.1927 in Victoria with whom she had two daughters Betty (date of birth unknown) and Joan Ada (born 28.08.1929). Emily died on 05.07.2001.
8Q10	Tennyson Harold Collett was born at Griffith Gully in Victoria on 29.07.1910. He joined the army and saw active service during the Second World War. His army service number was 83900.
	He married (1) Dorothy Joyce Hunt on 30.04.1960, Dorothy having been born in 1912, and he later married (2) Beryl.
8Q11	Eva Elizabeth Jane Collett was born at Maryborough on 22.01.1913 and she (1) married William Henry Borchers with whom she had four children, John Donald (born 08.07.1932), Elaine Joy (born 03.10.1934), Bruce Dennis (born 12.01.1937), and Garry Lawrence (born 19.04.1944).
	Eva later married (2) Patrick Robert Quigg who was born at Newport in Victoria but who died in August 1990 at Moonta Bay in South Australia where he was buried.

8Q16	Archibald Victor Collett was born on 12.05.1892 at Malvern in Victoria. On 15.11.1918 he married Muriel Adeline Harris (28.08.1902–27.11.1965) in Victoria. Archibald, who was bricklayer like his father Emanuel Collett (Ref. 8P4) died on 11.10.1970 and was buried at Dandenong in Victoria.

8Q17	PERCIVAL HAROLD COLLETT was born on 19.08.1893 at Armadale. Like his older brother Archibald Collett (above) and his father Emanuel Collett (Ref. 8P4) he too was a bricklayer.
	He saw active service in the First World War and his entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: Percy was born at Prahran (rather than Armadale); he enlisted at Oakleigh in Victoria; his service number was 3079; and his mother and next-of-kin was Hetty Collett – his father having died in 1912.
	It may be of interest to note that his service number 3079 was immediately before that of his cousin William Collett (Ref. 8Q4) who was 3080 perhaps indicating that they had enlisted together.
	He married Ruby Irene Theresa Andrews, referred to as Rita by the family, on 12.04.1924 at Caulfield. Rita was born on 13.02.1898 at Coburg in Victoria and died on 18.11.1984 at Hobart in Tasmania. Percival died on 14.01.1983 also in Hobart and was cremated at Springvale in Victoria the same as Rita.

8Q18	EDWIN ARTHUR COLLETT was born on 09.07.1895 at Carisbrook. He married Henrietta Mary Cory (Ref. 8Q15), referred to as Etta by the family, on 27.08.1925 at St Andrews Church in Unley, South Australia.
	Like his brother Percival, he too saw active service during the First World War and his entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Maryborough; he enlisted at Melbourne; his service number was 6928; and his mother and next-of-kin was Hetty Collett.
	Henrietta was born on 12.03.1894 at Mentone and was the daughter of Henry Corey and his second wife Mary Thomas Miller Barnett. Henry’s first wife was Mary Jane Collett (Ref. 8P3).
	During his life Edwin was a farmer and a railway worker. He died on 24.12.1950 at Perth in Western Australia. Henrietta was a stenographer and died on 06.05.1975 also at Perth and her ashes, like those of her husband, were buried at Karrakatta Cemetery.

8Q19	Beatrice Maude Collett was born on 16.03.1897 at Maryborough. She was a clothing machinist and married William Waknell in 1937. She died on 02.04.1984 and was buried in Victoria. The couple had a daughter Faye (born 14.02.1938).
8Q20	Ida Matilda Collett was born at Maryborough in July 1899 but tragically died when only seven months old on 05.02.1900 and was buried at Maryborough.
8Q21	Leslie St Clair Collett was born on 29.07.1900 at Armadale. He was a bricklayer and married Emma Rose Brundrett on 16.12.1922 at Moonee Ponds in Victoria. Emma was born on 01.01.1900 at Moonee Ponds and died in 1968 in Victoria. Leslie died at Caulfield on 20.06.1998.

8Q22	Irene Elizabeth Collett was born on 19.12.1904 at Brighton in East Victoria. Like her older sister she was a clothing machinist. She married Harold James Evans on 01.02.1930 and died in Queensland on 12.08.1992. Harold was born in February 1902 and died in October 1967. They had one son Neil (born 05.03.1932).
8Q23	Reginald Collett was born on 29.08.1907 at Sandringham in Victoria. Like so many of the Colletts at that time, he too was a bricklayer. In 1929 he married Rubi May Clark who was born on 09.09.1911. At the outbreak of war he enlisted and saw active service.
	His entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Bentleigh in Victoria (rather than Sandringham); he enlisted at Caulfield in Victoria; his service number was VX/69193; and his wife and next-of-kin was Rubi Collett.
	Reginald died on 27.07.1990 at and was cremated at Springvale four days later as was his wife eleven years earlier on 25.03.1979.

8Q24	Arthur Edwin Collett was born at Ballarat on 12.06.1902. He married Elizabeth Grace Moyle on 12.06.1937 and died twenty-two years later on 17.02.1959.
8Q25	Ida Elizabeth Collett was born at Ballarat on 20.03.1903. In 1928 she married Staley Andrew de Campo from whom she was divorced on 08.11.1934. The short marriage produced just one child, Edwin (Ted) Andrew (born 01.01.1929). Ida died on 30.12.1999 and was cremated at Riddells Creek.
8Q26	Thomas George Collett was born at Ballarat on 05.10.1905. He was a farmer at Clarkfield in Victoria and he married Roma Grace Boyle who was born on 07.09.1910.
	Thomas served in the armed forces during the Second World War and his entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Ballarat; he enlisted at Caulfield; his service number was VX/41731; and his wife and next-of-kin was Roma Collett.
	Thomas died on 06.12.1981 and was buried at Wangaratta in Victoria.

8Q27	Clifford Henry Collett was born on 14.10.1906 at Brighton. He married May Eaton Stray on 09.01.1929. At the outbreak of the Second World War he enlisted with the Royal Australian Artillery in which he was bombardier VX 28332.
	Tragically Clifford died on 14.07.1943 while on active service at Kanburi in Siam (now Thailand) and was buried at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery on the Burma Railway.
	May Eaton Stray was born on 10.09.1912 and at the time of the death of her husband she was living at Sunbury in Victoria. May died on 01.05.1992.

8Q28	Elsie May Collett was born at Brighton on 31.10.1907. In 1929 she married (1) George (Dud Seaton Matthews with whom she had two children George and Valerie whose dates of birth are not known. Elsie later married (2) Paez.
8Q29	Geoffrey Archard Collett was born at Bentleigh on 14.01.1909. He played an active role in the Second World War and on his return from the hostilities he married Dorothy Green on 21.09.1946.
	His entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Bentleigh; he enlisted at Royal Park in Victoria; his service number was VX/34376; and his father and next-of-kin was Edwin Collett.
	Geoffrey died on 26.12.1974.
8R1	John William Henry Collett was born at Kew in Victoria on 11.12.1919. During his life he was a soldier in the Second World War and a cabinet maker.
	His entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Kew; he enlisted at Ripponlea in Victoria; his service number was VX/13807; and his next-of-kin was given as Ethel Oates. Perhaps he was engaged to be married to Ethel at the time he enrolled in the army.
	On 28.06.1947 he married Patricia Scanlon at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Traralgon. Patricia was born at Footscray on 23.03.1922.
	It is of interest that John and Patricia decided to add ‘e’ to the end of the surname of all of their children.

Alarec was a carpenter and the couple had five children Dianne Nita, Pamela Jean, Jennifer Dorothy, Mark Lyton, and Glenn. No dates of birth are known.
8R7	Dorothy Shirley Collett was born on 24.04.1929 at Jeparit in Victoria. She married (1) William John Redfern with whom she had four children Gayle Jeanette (born 10.09.1950), Lynette Joy (born 23.08.1953), John William (born 14.02.1955) and Vicki Joanne (born 02.03.1958).
	Dorothy later married (2) Raymond Stanley Pitt on 08.07.1967 in Melbourne. Raymond was born in 1918 at Gawler in South Australia and died on 21.05.1988 at Kwinana in Western Australia and was cremated at Fremantle six days later.
	It was Dorothy Pitt that kindly provided the information about her family which she obtained from her father James Percy Collett (Ref. 8Q7).
8R8	Victor Henry Collett was born on 14.12.1933 at Stawell in Victoria. He was an instrument maker and married Eva Newman of Footscray but the marriage produced no children and they were later divorced.
8R9	Albert Henry Collett was born at Packenham in Victoria on 09.11.1925.
	His entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Packenham; he enlisted at Melbourne; his service number was 158034; and his next-of-kin was Myrtle McDonald who may have been engaged to be married to Albert or perhaps was even his future first wife.
	However, it is known that he married Rhonda May Arnold on 23.03.1957 at Moonee Ponds. Rhonda, who was born on 31.07.1831 at Davenport in Tasmania, was later divorced from Albert on 26.04.1979.
8R10	Aileen Emily Collett was born in Melbourne on 19.01.1935. She married Basil John Page who was born on 01.08.1929 at Nyngan in New South Wales. The marriage produced two daughters for the couple, these being Susan Gail (born 19.03.1956) and Karren Joy (born 10.04.1958) at Dubbo in NSW.
8R11	Yvonne Eleanor Collett was born on 31.05.1919 and she married William George Walker and they had two children Lorraine Yvonne and Carolyn Annette (born 16.11.1945). William was born on 16.12.1913. Yvonne died on 20.05.1991 and was followed three years later by her husband who died on 16.06.1994.
8R12	Keith Emanuel Collett was born on 23.12.1922 at Camperdown in Victoria. He played an active part in the Second World War but his military record gave his year of birth as 1921.
	His entry in the Service Records of the National Archives of Australia (www.naa.gov.au) confirms that: he was born at Camperdown; he enlisted at Albert Park in Victoria; his service number was VX/86480; and his father and next-of-kin was Archibald Collett.
	He married Rita McKendrick on 03.04.1948 at Essendon in Victoria and the marriage produced two children, both of whom were born at Elsternwick in Victoria.
	Rita was born at Frankston in Victoria on 01.05.1926 and died on-20.10.1996 at Ashburton in Victoria. Keith died on 02.10.1966 at Surrey Hills in Victoria and was buried two days after at Springvale.

8R13	Lois Belle Irene Collett was born on 07.05.1925 at Malvern in Victoria. She married (1) Jack Sydney Green on 04.12.1948 at Glenhuntly in Victoria. The couple had three children Robyn Stephanie (born 13.06.1957), Gail Leonie and Peta Leonie (born 19.07.1961), the latter two children being born in Rabaul PNG, where Peta died on 09.02.1993 aged 32.
	Jack was born on 19.04.1924-and died on 18.03.1989. Following his death, Lois married (2) Warren Jones on 21.11.1992 but he sadly died less than three months later on 09.02.1993.
8R14	BETTY ANN COLLETT was born on 30.10.1929 at Ormond in Victoria. She was a milliner and dressmaker and married Percival Ross Preston on 26.03.1949 at Elsternwick. Percival was a geological cartographer and was born on 17.03.1927 in Victoria.
	Betty died in Tasmania in 2006 and it was in Tasmania that her daughter Adrienne was born.

They had two children Diane Christine (born 1961) and Stephen Leslie (born 1964), both being born at Fern Tree Gully in Victoria.
8R16	DONALD BARRY COLLETT was born on 30.08.1928 at Manangatang in Victoria. He was a civil engineer and he married nurse Judith Elizabeth Leschen on 03.05.1952 at Attadale in Western Australia. Judith was born at Perth on 15.05.1930 the daughter of Wilhelm Erwin Leschen and Patricia Ethel McClemans. Don and Judith were divorced in 1977 and at the turn of the 21^st Century Don was still living at 81 Stoneham Road in Attadale.
	During 2009 Don had moved to a retirement village in Booragoon in Western Australia where he was enjoying a new lease of life free from the worries and toils of having to maintain a home and garden.
	I shall forever be grateful to Don who proved to be a good friend over many years and was more than willing to provide a great deal of assistance in assembling so many details about our relatives living ‘down under’.

8R17	Laurie Richard Collett was born on 26.06.1931 at Manangatang, Victoria. His occupations were those of a farmer and social worker. On 08.03.1952 he married Rosemarie Elaine Gibbs, referred to as Barney by the family, in Perth.
	Laurie and Barney fostered two children who came to the family when there were both two years old. From that time on both children were accepted as their own and were referred to as Tracey and Lesley Collett.
	Barney, who was a stenographer, was born on 12.02.1932 at Bunbury in Western Australia and she died on 15.06.1979 at Perth. She was buried at Karrakatta Cemetery.

	Leslie was born at Oakleigh in Victoria on 03.05.1925-and was a coach driver and a taxi driver. He died in Melbourne on 19.09.2003 and was buried at four days later at Springvale.

	Five years after the divorce, Margaret married (2) Keith Wallace Scott on 15.12.1972 at Melbourne with whom she had a further child born at Chelsea on 31.05.1976.

8R26	Clifford Edwin Collett was born on 06.08.1931 at Clarkfield. He married Paula Dorothy Hillman at Malta on 22.09.1954. Paula was born on 29.04.1937 at Coulsdon in Surrey, England. It may have been Clifford’s work that meant the family moved around as the three children were all born at different locations. The first at Taipang in Malaya, the next at Gisborne in Victoria, and the last at Sale in Victoria.

	A few years later and Celeste married (2) Neville Andrews on 04.04.1986. Neville was an electrician and religious minister and this second marriage produced two further children for Celeste, Luke Daniel (born 28.05.1987) at the Jessie MacPherson Hospital and Esther Elise (born 24.10.1988) at St Andrew’s Hospital in East Melbourne.
8S2	Margaret Mary Collette was born at Caulfield on 29.01.1951. On 28.10.1972 she married William Buckley who was born on 24.06.1951 at Brighton. The service took place at St Patrick’s Church in Murrumbeena in Victoria but the couple were divorced in 1992.
	The second and third of their three children Steven John (born 17.02.1975), Leigh William (born 03.07.1978) and Robin David (born 14.10.1982) were born at the Frankston Peninsula Hospital in Victoria.
8S3	Gregory John Collette was born at the Devon Hospital in Glenhuntly on 13.08.1952. In his later life he was the Director of Greenway Publications and Managing Director of Wordware Pty Ltd.
	On 16.02.1974 at the Naval Chapel at Watsons Bay in New South Wales he married Julienne Eve McGregor who was born on 26.06.1952 at Swan Hill in Victoria. Julienne was Director of Nursing at the Mercy Hospital for Women.
	The couple’s first child was born in Sydney while the other two were born at Wodonga in Victoria.

	Ian was born on 01.04.1946 at Woodend in Victoria and this second marriage produced two children Kim John (born 11.10.1982) and Felicity Peta (born 19.09.1985) with both having been born at the South East District Hospital at Noble Park in Victoria.
	This second marriage for Genevieve lasted just over ten years before being divorced in July 1992.
8S5	Leonie Elizabeth Collette was born at Oakleigh on 05.10.1958 and on 05.11.1994 she married Richard Uden. Richard was born on 19.08.1943 at Masterton in New Zealand and was a clay potter.
8S6	Graylin Collett was born at Maryborough on 08.04.1957. She married (1) Mr Byrne with whom she had four children Melanie, Matthew, Sheridan and Bradley, before she married (2) Jeff Tainish.
8S7	Donna Maree Collett was born at Maryborough on 18.01.1960. She married Leo Knowles with whom she had two children Kirbie Lee and Kye Brendan.
8S8	Tracey Nicole Collett was born at Maryborough on 17.10.1967 and she married Chris Holborn.
8S9	Colleen Margaret Collett was born on 05.09.1953 and her occupation was that of a hairdresser, although she was also known to be a singer. In 1973 she married (1)Paul Grace at Ballarat and this marriage produced two children Jamie Paul (born 28.09.1973) and Lisa Jane (born 01.10.1975).
	Colleen later married (2) Mark O’Toole in Melbourne in 1988 with whom she had a daughter Penelope Rose (born 20.07.189) at Dandenong.
8S10	Anthony James Collett was born on 19.09.1955 and he became an electrician. In September 1975 he married (1) Maureen Williams in Ballarat but later moved to live in Melbourne where at least two of their children were born.
	It was also at Melbourne in March 1988 that Anthony married (2) Dianne Loweth.

8S11	Krishna Monica Collett was born on 11.06.1957. Her occupation was that of a therapist and she married (1) Lindsay Brennan in 1997 at Ballarat. The marriage produced two children Leigh John (born 03.05.1981) who was an electrician and a sportsman and Sally Jo (born 03.10.1983).
	Both of the children were born while the family was living in Melbourne. However a few years later Krishna and Lindsay were divorced allowing Kristna to Marry (2) Steve Dutton.
8S12	Michael Francis Collett was born on 21.06.1958 and he took up the work of a mechanic. In 1980 he married (1) Christina Westaway and was living at Geelong in the following year when their son was born.
	Ten years after first marrying, Michael re-married (2) Maria Horvat in 1990. This marriage produced two further children for Michael who had settled in Melbourne where the children were born.
	Sometime around the turn of the century Michael took up with a new partner Anna Girgis with whom he had another child, again born in Melbourne.

	Kong Wing was born on 27.01.1952 at Singapore and he was a martial arts instructor. At the start of the 21^st Century Ann, her husband and their three children were living at Bacchus Marsh in Victoria.
	The couple’s first two children, the twins, were born when the family were living in Melbourne, while the third was born at Essendon.
	Just like Don Collett (Ref. 8R16), his cousin Ann was also a good friend over many years and was always willing to help and assist with missing details whenever she could.
	In 2009, and following her divorce, Ann set up a new adventure and travel company called ‘Wanderings’ which has enabled her to travel extensively across the world seeking out holidays that are a little bit different from the norm. 	Jard and Alexa were later divorced and on 13.09.2003 Jard married (2) Elizabeth (Libby) Ann Black. Libby was born on 14.01.1972 at Corinda in Queensland and was the daughter of Darryl Black and Judith Ann McMonagle.
	The two children arising from Jard’s second marriage were both born in Queensland at South Brisbane and Brisbane respectively.

	The children were Tanya Michelle (born 21.10.1977), Stephen John Robert (born 19.11.1978), Philip John (born 12.05.1980), Bridget Jean (born 15.12.1981) and Jodie Anne (born 01.05.1983). The married ended in 2001 when Julie Anne and Robert were divorced.

	On 13.04.2006 at Subiaco in Western Australia Tracey gave birth to a son Benjamin James.
8S23	Lesley Odette Cooper, known as Lesley Collett, was the fostered child of Laurie and Barney Collett. She was born at Kalgoorlie on 27.03.1969 and taken into the Collett family on 09.02.1971. On 20.11.1993 at Mandurah she married Dean Andrew Bunter who was born on 19.03.1968 at Geraldton in Western Australia. Their daughter Olivia Michelle was born at South Perth on 10.09.1995.
